The mid-career book that accompanied a one-person exhibit at the International Center of Photography, New York City, December, 1990.  The introduction by Robert E. Gilka, long time Director of Photography at National Geographic, is the only introduction to a book authored by Robert Gilka.  There is also a photographers forward by Sam Abell.  The book is divided into chapters each of which contains photographs from Abell's most significant assignments (Canada, Japan, Canoeing, Russia, The West, etc.)  Each chapter begins with a short essay written by the photographer.  Notes on selected images are in an appendix.
